Thanks to the Wärtsilä 20DF dual fuel engine, Wärtsilä has extended the advantages of dual fuel technology to cover the entire power range.
A series of 15 inland waterway barges built for Plouvier Transport NV in Belgium and leased by Shell Trading Rotterdam will be powered by Wärtsilä dual-fuel marine engines. These barges will mainly use LNG as fuel. Wärtsilä will also provide other propulsion equipment and its LNGPac gas treatment system. The hulls of these barges are being built at the CENTROMOST VEKA shipyard in Poland and will be installed at the Werkendam VEKA shipyard. The contract was signed with Wärtsilä in December last year.
It is reported that Wärtsilä will provide a 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 20DF dual-fuel main engine, a gearbox, an LNGPac gas treatment system and a Wärtsilä propeller with a HR nozzle for each barge. These equipment will be delivered to the shipyard in June 2016.
