Komatsu demonstrated the “ARION HYBRID” forklift equipped with capacitors and lead batteries as power storage devices at the 2nd World New Energy Expo. It is characterized by: decelerating regenerative charging and accelerating the generation of driving force using capacitors; other operations mainly use the power of lead batteries. The operating time for one charge is extended by about 20% compared to a system without a capacitor. However, the price is also 30% higher. The company has started shipping since May 2007.

Due to the high output power density of the capacitor, high-speed charge and discharge can be performed. The regenerative power generated during deceleration can only be maintained for several seconds, and the capacitor can be used for efficient regenerative charging. However, since the capacitor's battery capacity is "not very large," lead-acid batteries are required to supply power during non-acceleration and deceleration. Lead-acid batteries can be charged using 200V commercial power supplies. The forklift frequently accelerates and decelerates within a short travel distance, that is, there are many “Stop&Go” that can continuously generate regenerative power. Therefore, "a capacitor is used as a power storage device. Equipped with two power storage devices is a transitional measure before the capacitor capacity is increased."
