China Petroleum and Petrochemical Research Institute announced on May 13 that the LY-C2-02 catalyst developed by it has won the bid for the world’s first coal-to-ethylene industrial demonstration project—Shenhua 600,000-ton/year coal-to-ethylene plant. This marked that the domestic new type of low-carbon olefin refinement catalyst has been used in the coal chemical industry to become the first catalyst for the hydrogenation of coal-based ethylene equipment. The operation of Shenhua's coal-based ethylene plant will provide demonstrations for the development of coal-to-ethylene at home and abroad in the future. The successful bid for the LY-C2-02 catalyst will lay the foundation for the future promotion and application of this catalyst in the coal-to-ethylene field. According to reports, the carbon-dihydrogenation catalyst is a technical achievement that has been carefully researched and developed by the Lanzhou Chemical Research Center of the China Petroleum and Petrochemical Research Institute for many years. In recent years, ethylene plants of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company and Liaoyang Petrochemical Company have been widely used and have achieved remarkable results. Shenhua's 600,000-ton/year coal-based ethylene industrial plant that was successfully put into production in January 2011 adopts a complete set of technologies independently developed in China. The production cost is significantly lower than that of traditional ethylene equipment such as naphtha, which has a strong market. Competitiveness. However, during the methanol cracking process of this route, 5 ppm to 100 ppm of acetylene will be produced, which affects the polymerization process of ethylene and causes a decline in product quality, which needs to be removed by selective hydrogenation. In order to promote the newly developed carbon-dihydrogenation catalyst LY-C2-02 in the coal-to-olefins field as quickly as possible, in February of this year, led by Luming, the chief expert of ethylene at the PetroChina Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals, Deputy Director of Lanzhou Chemical Research Center. Wei Wei and the person in charge of the project team went to Baotou to conduct technical exchanges with the Shenhua coal-to-ethylene project unit. The research team introduced the LY-C2-02 catalyst to the other party in terms of its wide adaptability to high/low alkyne hydrocarbon content conditions, excellent selectivity and operating practices in similar conditions. After the exchange ended, the technicians of the research team further organized technical breakthroughs and put forward feasible technical solutions to solve the bottleneck problems of the Shenhua ethylene plant heat exchangers. They solved the bottleneck problems that plagued the production of the equipment and were affirmed by the Shenhua project unit. After receiving the invitation letter from Shenhua, the China Petroleum and Petrochemical Research Institute carefully arranged relevant departments and personnel to prepare various materials. It has repeatedly revised and perfected it, and conducted repeated studies on bidding strategies and programs, creating conditions for a successful bid.
