The association’s outlook report released in October 2009 predicts that global steel demand in 2010 will increase by 9.2%, but China’s apparent demand will only increase by 5%.
According to the report, global crude steel production in March increased by 30.6% from the same period last year to 120 million tons.
It is expected that the global steel demand in 2010 will exceed the historically highest level set before the outbreak of the economic crisis in 2007, and the demand for steel in the United States, Europe and other industrialized countries will also increase, but it is expected to be lower than the level in 2007.
The increase in steel demand is mainly driven by the rapid economic growth of emerging economies such as Brazil, India and China. The steel output of the member of the World Steel Association accounts for 85% of the total steel output of the world.
