Faced with the domestic complex business environment and the “low-cost strategy” of international traders, glyphosate companies have to cooperate to meet the challenges and form a group to participate in global agrochemical market competition through integration. The future of the industry is still bright. On April 21, the 2011 Glyphosate Industry Market and Technology Forum hosted by the China Pesticide Industry Association was held in Leshan, Sichuan. The scholars and experts attending the meeting reached consensus on the sustainable development of the Chinese glyphosate industry.

Due to the lucrative profits of China's glyphosate products from 2007 to 2008, it attracted a large number of investors in a short period of time. In 2007, there were 42 domestic glyphosate manufacturers. By the end of 2010, it had reached 131 and the annual production capacity reached 1 million tons. . The global demand for glyphosate exceeds 700,000 tons, and there is a serious imbalance in market supply and demand. Affected by the rapid expansion of production capacity, the domestic glyphosate industry is highly competitive and the overall profitability of the industry is poor.

According to Gu Baogen, deputy director of the Ministry of Agriculture's Institute of Pesticide Verification, the amount of glyphosate exports in 2010 was 438,800 tons, down 3.0% year-on-year; the amount of exports was 1.069 billion US dollars, down 8.6% year-on-year; first-time exports and exports were down. In 2010, all the imports of glyphosate were 1.09 million tons, an increase of 11.8% year-on-year; the import amount was US$34 million, a year-on-year decrease of 4.4%. Zhou Chun, director of the China Minmetals Chemicals Import and Export Chamber of Commerce, said that Monsanto has adjusted its global marketing strategy for China's main export market for glyphosate and implemented a “low-cost sales strategy” in markets such as the United States, Argentina, and Eastern Europe.

Wang Wei, chairman of Zhejiang Xin'an Chemical Group Co., Ltd., believes that some unfavorable factors have gradually evolved into potential risks in the development of China's glyphosate industry: First, Monsanto has continued to implement a “low-cost strategy” for China’s export market, and China’s Gansu Province The existence of anti-dumping risk of phosphine is an excuse to attempt to force China's glyphosate to withdraw from some of the major international markets through price and anti-dumping measures. Second, the standards and regulatory measures for the “three wastes” governance of glyphosate enterprises in different regions are inconsistent. , resulting in unfair competition in the industry; Third, in recent years the rise of the global anti-multi herbicide transgenic seed development and development, multinational companies can set technical barriers to restrict the healthy development of the domestic glyphosate industry. If the industry can not effectively resolve these factors, the glyphosate industry will be hard hit in the next few years.

In view of the current industry-wide losses and the shutdown of some enterprises, Wang Wei proposed to eliminate backward production capacity through mergers and acquisitions, and form several large-scale pesticide groups with a production capacity of around 100,000 tons to participate in the global agrochemical market competition. In addition, 10% of glyphosate products are withdrawn from the market, and the “three wastes” emission standard for glyphosate, taxation adjustment for glyphosate, and approval for investment in glyphosate projects should all be tightened. Raise the threshold for entry of the glyphosate industry, create a fair, just and orderly business environment for the industry, and promote the sustained and stable development of the glyphosate industry.

Chairman of the China Pesticide Industry Association Luo Haizhang said that China has strong glyphosate production capacity, adequate raw material resources, strong industrial policy support, and joint and collaborative group capabilities to actively participate in international market competition. The future of China's glyphosate industry remains the same bright.

From the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Intellectual Property Office, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, the China Minmetals Chemicals Import and Export Chamber of Commerce, the Zhejiang Xin'an Chemical Group, the Leshan City, Fuhua Agricultural Investment Group and other domestic and foreign relevant departments, More than 200 representatives of research institutes and enterprises attended the forum.
