The first edition of the ISO 8573-1 standard was enacted in 1991, and this is only the first step in recognizing the importance of air quality and classifying the output air based on three pollutants (ie oil, water and dust). In 2001, the second edition of the ISO 8573-1 standard was issued, which added a Class 0 standard for oil content.
