The global polyolefin market will continue to grow, but the world market will increasingly shift from North America and Europe to Asia and the Middle East. This is exactly the message sent by the resin industry veteran Chris Hogan at the “Plastics News” executive forum in the United States.

Hogan, the general manager of Olefins and Polyolefins business unit of Singapore-based global supply chain management company Noble Group, predicts that global polyolefin production will continue to grow at a rate of 5% per annum from 2011 to 2014. He said at the forum, but this growth rate can not keep up with the growth of global demand, and now demand for polyolefins in the Asian consumer market is growing rapidly.

Hogan said: “The global polyolefin market is undergoing major changes.” He has more than 20 years of professional career in the plastics and petrochemicals industry, having worked for industry giants such as Nova Chemicals and Arco Chemicals. "Polyolefin expansion in the Middle East and Asia is in full swing, and integration is taking place in Western Europe and North America."

Hogan said that China has now become the world's largest consumer of polyethylene, accounting for 23% of the global market share. The European market accounted for 19%, the United States ranked third, and the market accounted for 15%. He said that China's per capita consumption of polyethylene is also growing, and the per capita consumption of polyethylene in the United States has peaked in 1999 and has begun to decline.
