Mechanical Activation Process for Dispersion of Titanium Dioxide in Plastics

We deal with various mechanical activation process is made of titanium white powder masterbatch, and then blown into a PE film. The dispersion of titanium dioxide in the film was observed by phase contrast microscopy. Phase contrast micrographs are shown in the figure.

It can be found that the titanium dioxide of the mechanical activation method has a slightly larger particle size than the corresponding untreated titanium dioxide, which is an inevitable result of the mechanical activation method for coating the titanium dioxide. Nevertheless, the mechanical activation of titanium dioxide can still be more evenly dispersed in plastics. At the same time, we can also see that the titanium dioxide is treated by mechanical activation of CaCO ₃ and kaolin as the core material, and there is no significant difference in the dispersibility between the two in plastics. Since the core material is surrounded by titanium dioxide, and in the process of dispersion, the mechanical activation method treats only the outer layer of titanium dioxide to “contact” with the resin matrix, so the outer layer of titanium dioxide determines the dispersion of titanium dioxide by mechanical activation. Sex, the core material type basically has little effect on the dispersion.
