In August, PARAT Halvorsen AS received an order from the Vard Group for four new boilers for its Vard 1 08 designed multi-purpose platform vessel. PARAT will supply a single electric steam and hot water boiler with a power of 1,250 kW. Under normal operating conditions, the boiler is part of the hot water and heat recovery cycle and will provide the necessary additional heat for the HVAC, sanitary and tanker cargo preheating systems on board. In the event of an oil spill, the boiler will restart as a steam boiler. The steam will be used to maintain the emulsified viscosity of the recovered crude oil in the ORO tank and meet NOFO certification requirements.
It is reported that these multi-purpose platform ships are 81 meters in length, 18 meters in width and 830 square meters in cargo deck. These multi-purpose platform vessels are prepared for backup, rescue, fire fighting and recovery oil. Two of the multi-purpose platform vessels built for the shipowner ER Offshore will be built at Vard Vung Tau Shipyard in Vietnam and will be delivered in 2015 and 2016. Two other ships built for the shipowner Nordic American Offshore will be built at the Vard Aukra shipyard, both of which are scheduled for delivery in 2015.
