The new petrochemical project is said to include a world-scale ethylene cracker of 1 million tons per year, two sets of 650,000 tons per year of polyethylene, and a set of 450,000 tons per year of polypropylene. 300,000-ton/year special elastomer device, one aromatic hydrocarbon extraction device capable of producing 340,000 tons/year benzene, and one 125,000-ton/year oxo alcohol expansion device. In addition, ExxonMobil will build a 220 MW cogeneration plant. It is expected that the project will be completed and put into production in early 2011.
According to reports, the project will use ExxonMobil's latest proprietary technology. The new combined unit will have greater flexibility in meeting customer needs, be able to process a variety of raw materials, and convert it into higher value products such as new metallocene-based specialty elastomers, polyethylene resins, and plastomers.
The company also announced that the Shaw Group has been awarded a contract for the design, engineering, procurement and construction of steam cracker recovery units; the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for steam cracking furnaces was acquired by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Heurtey; Mitsui & Co., Ltd. An EPC contract for polypropylene and special elastomer devices was also obtained; Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. received two sets of EPC contracts for polyethylene devices.
ExxonMobil Chemical announced on September 5 that the company has established a second world-scale steam cracking joint installation project in Singapore. The project is located at its existing Singapore site and will realize integrated operations to ensure that the project generates synergies with chemical plants and refineries on raw materials, operations and investments.
