According to foreign media reports, Quanergy has invested in the construction of a factory in Sunnyvale, Calif., to develop and manufacture S3 solid-state lidar sensors.
The S3 solid-state lidar sensor is very small and can be mounted inside the body or machine without affecting the aesthetics of the vehicle. The mass-produced S3 can be intelligently automated with high-definition 3D sensing, classification, and tracking capabilities.
It is reported that the indoor environment of the new factory is clean and equipped with an automatic production line. The production line uses the latest semiconductor handling and packaging equipment, including: high-precision photonic integrated circuit processing tools and transmission systems, the latter connected to the mechanical equipment, can be silicon wafer into the finished laser radar sensor. Compared with the old Quanergy plant, the new plant will bring higher production capacity. In addition, the factory is equipped with calibration and terminal test equipment to supervise the entire production process and ensure product quality.
It is worth mentioning that the new factory can also be expanded according to market demand to increase production capacity. Quanergy developed the solid-state laser radar using optical phased array technology, which is based on a mature silicon CMOS platform, ultra-low cost, and has been commercialized.
At present, the price of S3 solid-state lidar sensors is mainly affected by the order quantity, which is about several hundred dollars. In the future, solid-state lidar products will have a higher level of integration, and Quanergy expects the price to be lower than US$100.
